Olivier Rousteing’s fall 2017 collection for Balmain featured myriad luxurious variations on animal prints. The dense and textured embellishments of this ensemble resemble crocodile skin. Historian Florence Fearrington considers crocodiles “iconic objects” within cabinets of curiosities, where collectors often suspended their bodies from the ceiling to emphasize man’s power over beast.
