Bonnie Cashin went to India in 1956 to conduct research on textile exportation for the Ford Foundation. The following year she designed this dress inspired by Indian drapery and made from pleated sari fabric. An avid traveler, Cashin often found inspiration in the clothing and textiles indigenous to the countries she visited.
