Evening dress
c. 1832
Green silk velvet, satin, and cream lace
Museum purchase
Object number2006.13.1
Many antique garments in museum collections show signs of alteration or repair. This opulent gown was found in pieces by a collector during the 1950s and was later reassembled. Previous stitch lines indicate that the skirt ruffles were originally placed slightly lower. The new positioning disguises marks of wear on the fabric.
