Madeleine Vionnet was one of the greatest dressmakers in modern fashion history. The geometrically precise arcs and angles of her groundbreaking construction methodologies are evident in the pattern of this dress. They also echo the lines of her magnificent, neoclassical-inspired salon de presentation, nicknamed the “Temple of Fashion,” designed by the architect Ferdinand Chanut, decorator George de Feure, and crystal sculptor Lalique.
