Elizabeth Hawes envisioned styles that referenced the past while still looking to the future in her later work. The designer emulated the loose silhouettes and color palettes of tunics of the Middle Ages in her own interpretation of such garments. She updated the look by incorporating elements of Space Age fashion and unisex styling.
