The high cost of fine fabrics often made it necessary to get significant wear from a single dress. While some gowns paired a day and an evening bodice with a single skirt, this example features a capelet that demurely covers a low-cut evening bodice. It also has removable long sleeves.
DescriptionDress, matching capelet collar, long sleeves in pale green silk stripe, with coordinating twill tape remnant; boned bodice has wide V-neck, pointed waist CF; short sleeves have curved edge with self pleated trim; full skirt cartridge pleated to bodice; matching capelet collar or bertha has round neck, deep V at CF, CB, trimmed with tan silk fringe; matching long sleeves are narrow with self covered buttons at cuff; twill tape remnant in sage green wool
