One of the finest designers to craft suits for women was Gilbert Adrian, the legendary Hollywood costumer-turned-fashion designer. A mid-century wardrobe staple, Adrian transported suits from the silver screen to the streets of America and produced seemingly endless variations of the sharply chiseled, war-time silhouettes. This cocktail version, with its fitted wool torso and voluminous silk sleeves, shows the diversity of the designer's oeuvre within the tailor's vernacular.
