Jeanne Lanvin was known for her artful use of embellishment, manipulating and layering materials in innovative ways. She used a sequin pattern to add shine, texture, and weight to this light-as-air dress. Each circular element consists of a set of stacked sequins in graduated sizes, attached with embroidery that resembles an asterisk. This added tactile dimension is decorative but also holds the sequins in place.
DescriptionEvening dress of black tulle embroidered with single rows of stacked black paillettes in horizontal stripes over attached black silk sheath: scoop neckline at front; v-neckline with rounded bib collar variation at back; fitted bodice; bishop sleeve with paillette trim at cuff; long flared skirt
