Bonnie August was design director at Danskin from 1975 to 1984. In 1985, she formed her own activewear label. Akin to the bodysuits worn by dancers, her form-fitting “catsuit” was a garment equally acceptable in the studio or on the street. The lithe garment resembles earlier jumpsuit styles produced by Halston, the acclaimed designer whose name was often connected to the dance costumes of Martha Graham’s dance company.
