The International Wool Secretariat’s 1964 Woolmark campaign sought to promote wool as a fiber superior to the new, increasingly popular synthetics. Garments with a Woolmark label, such as this one, were guaranteed to be virgin, non-reprocessed wool. Scholar Sandy Black notes that the campaign stigmatized recycled wool, significantly decreasing its market value.
