This peignoir, meant to be worn at home, is as beautiful and as charming as one of Lelong’s evening dresses. His exacting eye can be seen in the use of sumptuous materials and in delicate details such as the tiny buttons and bow motif at the waist. From the 1920s, Lelong’s couture house had a special salon for lingerie. Lelong said: “Lace and embroidery are the base of lingerie, that feminine adornment which always commands its final cachet of delicacy and elegance.”
