In the early to mid 1950s, afternoon dresses usually featured some décolletage and more luxurious fabrics than their morning counterparts. This dress is a sophisticated take on the traditional shirtwaist, combining a draped neckline with a shirred lower bodice that resembles a cummerbund. The soft drapery is accentuated by a tightly cinched belt.
