The damask textile in this dress references East Asian floral motifs, while the neckline, sleeves, and smocking details were inspired by Renaissance styles. This combination speaks to the history of damask. It originated in China, but was named for Damascus, a significant Middle Eastern trading hub during the Renaissance.
