This evening ensemble is made from a simple striped fabric that King had cut and reassembled at a 45 degree angle. This technique, known as “mitering,” was popular with leading couturiers. Its use here underscores King’s familiarity with cutting-edge couture practices.
DescriptionEvening dress in gold lurex, grey, brown and mustard yellow striped silk rep; cut on bias with wide V front neck and deep V neck; point at front and back shoulder of bodice connected by pleated shoulder straps; four French bust darts on either side for fit; four seams cut with godet fullness in skirt. 55 cm. matching jacket cut on opposite bias of dress; 3.3 cm. standing band collar; long kimono sleeves with underarm gussets; fitted with French bust dart, slant body dart and bust dart from gusset on either side; small half circle godet in center back seam at hem; 21 loops and buttons closing at center front.Collections
