A marked wave of fashion with Chinese motifs arose around 1997, when Hong Kong was returned to China after 156 years of British rule. The dragon motif on these pumps was embroidered by hand, making the shoes especially costly. Nevertheless, they became one of Patrick Cox’s most successful designs.
