Wool gabardine
Gift of Mrs. Harry H. Potter
Object number71.224.1
Adrian’s V-shaped silhouette is skillfully adorned with chevron insets. Garments such as this were triumphantly termed “Victory Suits,” and were designed to conserve fabric in order to aid in the war effort. Adrian’s wartime collections abided by government regulations and showed that fashion could conform to utility without sacrificing style.
