Red, grey and blue checked wool tweed, leather, and plastic
Gift of Mr. Rodman A. Heeren
Object number68.151.5
This checkered tweed suit consists of a jacket and culottes. Its wearer, Brazilian Aimée de Heeren, moved to New York in the late 1930s and quickly became a fixture in the city’s high-society circles. She also patronized the noted Viennese tailoring house of Knize, which had a branch in Paris. Her Knize suit is not only a rare example from this noted firm, it is also an extremely fine example of sports clothing that, with its scalloped collar and pockets, is feminine and charming.
DescriptionSuit; red, grey and blue checked wool tweed; hip length jacket, round collar cut in scallops, five leather braided buttons, long sleeves, padded at shoulders, two buttons at cuffs, two slashed pockets with scalloped detail; culottes, straight, mid thigh, cut with deep crotch and inverted pleat front and back, deep turnback cuff at hem, plastic zipper and belt keepers.
