Skirt
c. 1952
Cotton denim and appliqués
Gift of Beatrice A. Feingold

This skirt has been decorated in the manner of “poodle skirts,” so named for their distinctive use of appliqués, often in the shape of perfectly groomed poodles. Here, however, the appliqués appear as vegetables. The cut of poodle skirts mimicked Dior’s “New Look” silhouette, but could be made at home from inexpensive materials.
