Salvatore Ferragamo established his company in Florence in 1927. During the 1930s, he began to use specialized materials for his footwear. He had adopted specialty Venetian lace that was produced in convents and artisanal centers in Tuscany for footwear by 1935, and he continued to use the material throughout his career.
