Fashions of the 1920s de-emphasized the waistline with uncorseted, columnar styles. Here, a dropped waistline effect is created by the addition of beaded fringe in a V-shape on the lower half of the garment. During this decade, hemlines also rose steadily, reaching their shortest point—at the knee—around 1925. The streamlined modernity of 1920s clothing continues to influence fashion designers.
