This versatile day dress would have been worn in the morning or for casual afternoons in the suburbs. The ready-to-wear design features Jacques Fath’s signature couture flourishes—including an asymmetric closure, oversized lapel, and side-draped bow. Fath’s lucrative partnership with a New York manufacturer allowed him to dress fashionable American women of moderate means.
DescriptionDress: yellow / green linen; round neck; asymmetrical styling with closely spaced right front bodice buttons, diagonal front panel; fitted with waist darts; cap sleeve with stylized diamond underarm gusset; straight-line, calf length skirt draped at left front hip with diagonal darts under deep side pleat, fly panel through large buttonhole; center back zipper. Matching belt: self covered band and buckle. Coordinating scarf: black, white, small check cotton with large yellow, white windowpane shadow check.
