Lady Duff-Gordon (known professionally as Lucile) had couture houses in London, New York, Paris, and Chicago, and dressed prominent “It” girls such as Isadora Duncan and Elsie de Wolfe. Similar to the couture designs of Boué Soeurs in the 1910s, Lucile incorporated theatrical dress design materials, such as the use of filigree and trim that were engineered to catch the floodlights and project the performer.
