Valentina was an exclusive, New York-based couturier who was known for her memorable pronouncements such as: “Yellow is for flowers,” “Children are for suburbs,” and “Mink is for football.” She was also a distinctly stylish woman who created modern fashions that reflected her seamless blend of function and drama, elements that likely stemmed from her early dance training and career. The couturier wore and modeled many of her own designs to great effect, thus living up to her proclamation: “I am theater.”
