Halston used circles to construct one of his most ravishing and poetic creations—the American Beauty Rose gown. Eight two-layer pattern pieces were cut into along their radii, and then were paired and joined, also at the radii. The pairs were placed at four points on the body, equidistant from one another, before being joined together. The resulting gown is a floating confection with the clean, rigorous lines for which Halston is famous.
