Macy’s Little Shops used the structure of silk satin to give this line-for-line copy of an evening coat its voluminous shape, just as Cristóbal Balenciaga had done when he created the original. The Macy’s version was executed using a bonded couture sample. Bonded models allowed department stores to temporarily import samples and avoid paying an exorbitant duty of 70%.
