Black velvet and purple silk taffeta
Gift of Beatrice Simpson
Object number77.230.1
Although styled like a day suit, the combination of luxurious fabrics indicates that this semi-formal ensemble was meant for evening. It was appropriate for many “after five” settings that did not require formal eveningwear, such as restaurant dinners or the theater. When indoors, the sculpted jacket could be removed to reveal a sunburst-pleated bodice. (Shown with object 72.81.6)
DescriptionEvening set: black velvet jacket, purple silk taffeta two-piece dress, wide V-neck bodice with sunburst bustline pleats and long fitted sleeves, matching flared skirtCollections
