The hourglass silhouette of this couture evening set on the left is known as the “New Look.” Christian Dior introduced it to the fashion industry with his Corolle collection of 1947. Characterized by a nipped-in waist, full skirt, and rounded shoulders, this ultra-feminine style became the dominant trend of the 1950s.
DescriptionTwo-piece evening dress in light red machine lace with large floral motifs of shirred chiffon tape on patterned areas of tulle; fitted bodice with V-neck surplice front and elbow length sleeves, floor length full skirt over layers of white and red tulle; stoleExhibitions
