Poiret opened his couture house in 1903 and became known for his modern designs, many of which drew on exotic influences. He was also one of the first designers in the early twentieth century to advance a looser-fitting, uncorseted silhouette. A wide collar and cuffs trimmed with fringe add an element of theatricality to this stunning coat by the “King of Fashion.”
