By the 20th century, wool suits were indispensable, practical elements of fashionable daywear for women. Wool’s malleability makes it a perfect material to form this ultra-feminine New Look silhouette. Lilly Daché’s gray wool suit, echoed by its ubiquitous menswear counterpart, embodied conservative, mid-century American fashion.
DescriptionTailored jacket in grey worsted twill with thick and thin stripe in black used horizontally. Black velvet collar with peaked lapels edged with vertical stripe; padded shoulders; long sleeve; waist nipped with three front darts; underarm and side back seams; stand pocket banded with velvet on each shaped front hip. Lined in black silk crepe. Double breasted closing with one set of buttons at center front waist. Matching sheath skirt with 1 ¼ inch self waist band; inserted vertical stripe inset at side front skirt to match stripe of jacket. Closing becomes side kick pleat at hem. Zipper closing at left side.
