This striking at-home ensemble, with a design of roses, might be situated within a history of informal attire from banyans and tea gowns to modern day athleisure. It was worn by Diana Vreeland, a former editor at Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, who was known for her colorful personal style. From 1972 until her death in 1989, Vreeland was a consultant at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art.
