Optical Art, as an abstract, geometric form, has roots in 19th- and early 20th-century movements such as Neo-impressionism, Cubism, Futurism, and Constructivism. Op Art is most recognizable for black-and-white paintings that create optical illusions and movement. Its style is easily translated to textiles. Hanae Mori took the idea a step further by placing an undulating pattern onto a minidress. Op Art melded well with the youth-oriented designs of the 1960s that encouraged mobility and fun.
