Gift of Vivienne Tam
Object number95.82.5
As a motif for her print, Vivienne Tam chose a portrait of Mao Zedong from a label that was placed inside Chinese suits during the late 1940s. Many artists have executed their own versions of Mao’s portrait. In fact, the image on this suit is often mistaken for one of Andy Warhol’s Mao paintings.
