Aurora James started her shoe brand after traveling to Morocco and Nigeria and finding inspiration in the shoemaking and textile techniques she saw there. She built a sustainable and ethical brand to support artisans’ skills, working with craftspeople in South Africa, Kenya, Morocco, Ethiopia, Mali, Ghana, Namibia, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso where the cotton textile for these high-heeled sandals was hand woven and dyed. Through these materials, she is “telling cultural stories and happy stories about Africa, which is something that I wasn’t really exposed to ... growing up.”
