Muffs are handwarmers that are tubular in shape with holes on either end. Although muffs are still available today, they were most fashionable from the mid-sixteenth to midnineteenth centuries. Varying in size and shape, they were often made from furs and other rich, heavy fabrics such as this bright pink chenille.
