Issey Miyake commemorated the 20th anniversary of his SoHo store with a bento box of pleated accessories – bags, pouches, belts, and headbands – rolled into sushi pieces. Sushi is a quintessentially Japanese dish that immediately represents Japanese culture worldwide. It was introduced to Japan in an early form from China in the eighth century. The dish evolved and by the late-eighteenth century, Edo (Tokyo) boasted thousands of sushi restaurants. Sushi first became popular in the US during the 1960s.
