André Leon Talley remembers Patrick Kelly’s apartment papered from floor to ceiling with Josephine Baker posters. A jazz performer, Baker was one of the first African Americans to achieve global fame, and, like Kelly, she found success in Paris. Just as Baker inspired Kelly, he, in turn, used her image to inspire others.
