In 1967, Geoffrey Beene stunned fashion’s elite when he transformed the familiar football jersey into an evening gown. Covered entirely in shimmering sequins, the dress is essentially an elongated jersey ripped straight from the field—complete with a large “38” across the chest and the contrasting armbands particular to football uniforms.
