London-trained John Galliano decamped to Paris in 1989, where he grew to international stature directing design at Givenchy, Christian Dior, and Maison Martin Margiela. However, as author Andrew Tucker states, “Galliano’s approach is very much that of a British designer . . . he absorbs wildly diverging historical and cultural elements to invent new hybridizations of the contemporary.”
