This plate from "Encyclopedie, ou Dictionnaire Raisonne des Sciences, des Arts, et des Metiers", an encyclopedia about eighteenth-century textile manufacturing, includes diagrams of machinery and drawings of craftsmen and laborers at work. Various operations—from selecting fibers to weaving on the basse-lisse loom—are performed by employees in an engraving of the Gobelins tapestry workshop.
