Dutch design studio Freedom of Creation produced this seamless dress and bag using CAD (computer aided design) software and a 3D printer. The CAD file was sent to the 3D printer, which guided lasers to cut and mold a block of nylon powder. In 2005, The Museum at FIT became the first museum to acquire a 3D garment for its collection. As scholar Suzanne Lee observes, “The use of 3D printing for manufacturing also offers the possibility of making unique one-offs.”
DescriptionLaser sintered dress shaped and styled with interlinked loops in high tech 3D printing from white nylon powder, in single unseamed piece; squared shawl collar on plunging V-neck, open back, calf length slightly flared skirt with CB slit; dressed on white plastic dress form
