Two-piece dress

Cotton
Gift of J. Bidner-Heinritz
Object number2004.62.3
The coarse cotton fabric of this dress is typical of the plain, sturdy clothing worn by the working-class of the time period. Women’s domestic labor—and financial contributions—were often vital to a family’s survival. The loose fit of the bodice would have provided easy mobility and was roomy enough to accommodate a pregnancy.
DescriptionTwo-piece work dress with tunic / jacket style bodice and long bell skirt, in coarse cotton printed with beige / tan diaper pattern and oval green dots; long sleeve semi-fitted bodice with convertible collar, CF buttons above bust, and self hem ruffle; skirt tightly shirred at back waist, and with double self hem ruffle; hand sewnCollections
