Helmut Lang’s inventive designs spanned multiple 1990s trends, but they were most consistently categorized as minimalist. Even when the designer’s work was at its simplest, however, it featured idiosyncratic details. The incorporation of slits over a garment’s elbows, as seen on this otherwise classic sweater dress, was one of Lang’s signatures.
