Wool faux fur, silk taffeta
Museum purchase
Object number2004.16.1
This faux lamb fur coat offered a chic alternative to coats made from traditional furs, which were quite rare and expensive during the German Occupation of Paris. Its dense wool pile is probably as warm as the fur it imitates, and precedes the more common use of simulated fur by nearly thirty years.
DescriptionHooded coat in brown wool faux astrakhan woven pile; tapered raglan sleeve variation with wide, lightly padded shoulders; knee length, semi-fitted, slightly flared below hip; pointed hood constructed as wide self band, open at back when covering head; brown silk taffeta lining and ties at CF neckCollections
