Isabel Toledo’s "Hermaphrodite" evening dress is a result of the designer’s innovative experiments with tension and the effects of gravity on cloth. The fabric pouches are made of silk taffeta that was gathered and then suspended to create amorphous shapes that transform the natural female figure and earn the dress its name. Toledo’s avant-garde sensibility has established her reputation as one of the most forward-thinking designers of our time.
