White embroidered cotton and green silk
Gift of Arne Ekstrom

The “lingerie dresses” of the early 20th century were named for their white fabrics and trimmings. They were best suited to informal summer wear, but particularly elaborate versions could be worn for dressier occasions. This example was skillfully altered during the 1960s or 1970s, perhaps for use as a wedding gown.
DescriptionEdwardian style white on white summer dress in sheer cotton, embroidered and inset with cotton lace; long acetate slip and olive green ribbon sash added as part of alteration for re-use (possibly in the 1960s or 1970s)
