This dress includes clear plastic panels down its sides, exposing the wearer’s body. Rudi Gernriech experimented with exposure of the body throughout his career. The transparent panels take the 1960s ideal of “freeing the body” to an extreme, as they likely inhibited the wearer’s ability to wear undergarments.
