The close fit and elongated silhouette of this couture evening dress accentuated the statuesque physique of its wearer, actress Lauren Bacall. In motion, the ostrich feathers added graceful dynamism to an otherwise understated design. Marc Bohan took over as creative director for Dior from Yves Saint Laurent in 1960. His combination of restraint and subtle flair during his thirty-year career at Dior conveyed effortless sophistication.
