The “lettuce” hem on this dress was created by mistake, when Stephen Burrows’s assistant overstretched a jersey hem. “I liked the look of it,” Burrows said. He made it his signature element. This tiered silk chiffon ensemble was featured in the famous “Battle of Versailles” fashion show, which catapulted his career onto the international stage.
