Adrian was perhaps best known for his intricately pieced women’s suits from the 1940s, but his designs for formal occasions were equally innovative. The horizontal lines of this gown—created through padded shoulders and color blocking—are disrupted by the addition of embellished slits over the arms that delineate cape-like sleeves.
DescriptionLong evening dress in off white rayon crepe with black lower skirt and curved bodice bands extending to tabs; blouson with high V-neck, padded shoulders, cape-like sleeves, columnar skirt; slits at arm level and at RF hem, outlined with vertical bars of bronze beads and sequinsCollections
