Teddies were derived from the combination undergarments of the early twentieth century. By the 1980s, they had become especially provocative. In 1988, Intimate Fashion News reported that designers continued to “tempt the consumer to add more styles to her teddy wardrobe,” describing styles with “briefly cut silhouettes . . . high-cut legs and revealing spaghetti-strap bodices.”
